Assessing Department

"The Assessing Department is responsible for the establishment of assessments of taxable property for the equitable distribution of the property tax burden in accordance with Michigan's General Property Tax Act and other applicable statutes. The Assessing Department's responsibilities include, creating the annual assessment roll, maintaining ownership records and property descriptions for taxing purposes, processing Personal Property Statements and personal/real property exemption requests, processing land divisions, and inspecting existing property and new construction for property tax purposes. Taxable values established by the Assessing Department annually are used by the Township Treasurer to produce property tax bills for property within the Township."

2024 Board of Review Meeting Schedule.
Pursuant to the laws of the state of Michigan and the Township General Law, the following constitute the 2024 annual meeting dates for the Byron Township Board of Review, all meetings will be held at the Byron Township Offices.  Meetings can be attended either in person, virtual, or by letter appeal:

March 5, 2024-9:00am
- Organization Meeting for the purpose of receiving the certified Assessment Rolls and for making initial corrections as necessary.
March 11, 2024 9:00am-5:30pm- For the purpose of hearing appeals of valuation, classification, poverty exemption and disabled Veterans exemptions.
March 12, 2024 1:00pm-9:00pm- For the purpose of hearing appeals of valuation, classification, poverty exemption and disabled Veterans exemptions.
July 16, 2024 9:00am- For the purpose of making corrections to the assessment rolls based on mutual mistake of fact, qualified errors, qualified Principle Residence adjustments and for hearing appeals requesting poverty exemption and disabled Veterans exemptions.
December 10, 2024 9:00am- For the purpose of making corrections to the assessment rolls based on mutual mistake of fact, qualified errors, qualified Principle Residence adjustments and for hearing appeals requesting poverty exemption and disabled Veterans exemptions.
