Summer Re-Inspection Program

In Byron Township we strive for accurate property records.  To meet this goal, each summer we focus on an inspection review of 20% of homes in the Township.  Each year from May to August, Township personnel will be in designated neighborhoods, as indicated by the Re-inspection Map and notices to residents, knocking on doors and inspecting homes.

The process of the program includes a site visit by Township personnel to photograph and measure all buildings, inspect improvements, and conduct a brief interior walk-through (noting current conditions, amenities and asking questions of the property owner to update and verify assessing records).  Interior photographs will not be taken.  Property owners do have the right to decline an interior and/or exterior site visit.  If you wish to decline a visit to your property by assessing staff, please contact the office.  If staff is unable to verify records, an assessment estimation will be determined and updated photographs will be taken from the roadway.

For the safety of property owners, Township employees will be wearing Byron Township identification badges.  If no one is home, Township employees will measure the exterior of the building and leave a yellow tag on the front door.  Those whom receive a yellow door tag are kindly asked to call our office (616.878.6033) in order to schedule a time for an interior inspection to complete our review.
